How to prepare traditional matcha?

The tea ceremony, or Chanoyu in Japanese, is much more than just preparing tea. It is a codified ritual, inspired by the principles of Zen Buddhism, aimed at creating a moment of spiritual connection with nature and with oneself.
In this practice, matcha is prepared in the traditional way, with hot water, to create a delicate and refined drink.
To prepare traditional matcha, you will need:
- 1 to 2 teaspoons of our Original Matcha powder
- Hot water (around 70-80°C)
- A matcha bowl (chawan)
- A bamboo whisk (chasen)
- A tea sieve
Recipe :
1. Sift the Matcha: Start by sifting the matcha powder into your bowl using the tea sieve. This step is not obligatory but it will eliminate any lumps and guarantee a smooth and homogeneous infusion.
2. Preheat the Bowl: Pour a little hot water into the bowl to preheat it. This will help maintain the ideal temperature for your matcha.
3. Measure the Powder: Using a matcha spoon, measure 1 teaspoon of matcha powder and drop it into the preheated bowl.
4. Add Hot Water: Gently pour hot water (around 70-80°C) over the matcha powder in the bowl. Make sure you don't fill the bowl completely, leave space for the whisk.
5. Whisk the Matcha: Using the bamboo whisk, whisk the matcha vigorously using a quick, steady back and forth motion. Be careful to form a light, creamy foam on the surface of the matcha. You can also use an electric whisk.
6. Enjoy: Once your matcha is well whisked and the foam has formed, your tea is ready to enjoy.
